I was not able to go to Bradford Championship Show this year, but my first attendance was in 1983. The show was at Doncaster Racecourse, as now, but before the big refurbishment and reorganisation took place. It was a very different place back then. The cafeteria was still upstairs but with a different layout, and you could see the show laid out below by looking over the balcony railings. The food was also a lot better!
The mouse section was tucked in a back corner—it was very dark, but not isolated from the other sections as it is now. The cavies were just next to it, as were the rabbits. If you were a judge you were lucky enough to get lunch in the VIP restaurant, away from the hoi polloi, with VIP food. It was a real perk.
The show was held there for the last time in 2005 as it moved to Harrogate in 2006, where it remained till 2017. The reasons for the moves were as usual costs, though if I recall correctly there were also some issues around supporting small animal shows, and whether this was approved by the Racecourse owners (this latter problem also led to removal of sponsorship by Burgess Feeds, causing much difficulty for BSLS at the time).
Here are some details from the shows for the years 2005-10, six years in total. 2005 being 20 years ago, a fair number of you will not recognise a lot of the names, but you will also note quite a few who are still highly active in today’s fancy. Think of the wealth of experience gained by these fanciers.

Bradford Championship at Harrogate
2009 (above) and 2010 (below).
I didn’t have a picture of Paul Threapleton with his BIS—he was very likely with the rabbits at the time. The photos are probably all dark as well—I won’t know till printed— but you get an impression at least!
