Judge: [log in to see names] Selfs, Aovs

General Comments

Firstly thank you to [log in to see names] for the invitation to judge, there was a good atmosphere and it was pleasant to share the hall with some of the other small animal fancies. Thanks to my two stewards [log in to see names] and [log in to see names] who both did an exemplary job, I know judges always say it, but good stewarding really makes a days judging easier. I am very pleased to report that all exhibits in my sections were fit, healthy and in good condition, there were no cases of mites or illness, which was refreshing. However there seemed to be an epidemic of mice with wonky noses, and a few that had previously visited the barbers and had turned up a little sparse on whiskers, although they did have some. An epidemic is probably an over exaggeration but there were quite a few wonky faces throughout the day. It was a my pleasure to finally meet [log in to see names] and judge along side him and we didn’t have too much difficulty agreeing on top honors. Finally congratulations to [log in to see names] who again turned out some beautiful mice and took the double whammy, and to everybody else that made for such an enjoyable day!

Selfs

White (pink eye) Ad – 9

1st [log in to see names] D A mouse of lovely type and substance! a good width of head with lovely ear position, and an excellent thick fleshy tail. wins class on whiteness, but under held back in challenge.
2nd [log in to see names] D A very similar mouse to 1st place however not as white.
3rd [log in to see names] B A very handsome buck, lovely type with a great head. Dirty make on rump spoilt presentation.

White (pink eye) U8 – 4

1st [log in to see names] D A stunning little mouse! Lovely type and ahead on under to 2nd, no mouse is perfect and I would have like it to be a little more level underneath, but I’m nit picking. A good even colour and excellent crisp whiteness. She showed herself well! BIS
2nd [log in to see names] B Lovely type with a good colour. slightly more substance than 1st but spoilt by moult mark on back.
3rd [log in to see names] D Small ears, a short back with podgy belly.

Cream Ad – 0

Cream U8 – 2

sadly this was a poorly represented class.
1st [log in to see names] D Nice bold eyes. Small ears, poor type, however the mouse was healthy and in decent condition.
2nd [log in to see names] B Small very high set ears and an extremely boney stringy tail, just no type at all. The mouse had no sparkle or presence and its coat was dull. If there were more mice in this class it certainly wouldn’t have placed.

Black Ad – 6

This was an excellent class of six, fit, healthy and beautifully glossy blacks all of a similar depth and colour. 3rd – 6th were beaten, having thinner unders and teat spots visible, but were otherwise excellent.
1st [log in to see names] D Best depth of colour with a beautiful thick velvety under which appeared as thick as the top coat. It absolutely glistened with condition and you could almost be forgiven for mistaking it for a satin. wrinkled ears held it back in challenge.
2nd [log in to see names] D a similar mouse to 1st place however a there were a couple of fault hairs on the vent visible.
3rd [log in to see names] D A nice mouse and not far behind 1st and 2nd but didn’t have the depth of pigment on ear skin. also faint line under.

Black U8 – 6

1st [log in to see names] D Nice level colour and good under. excellent condition.
2nd [log in to see names] D Everything you want to see in a black, however it had very sparse whiskers and the very tip of its tail was blunt which split 1st and 2nd, otherwise an excellent mouse.
3rd [log in to see names] D nice on top. thinner under with faint line showing.

Red/Fawn Ad – 1

1st [log in to see names] Red D Red – A very attractive mouse! beautiful big bold black eyes which really shone. Top colour ok, but under was 2 shades lighter. That being said the mouse was in fine condition, fit and healthy, which really goes along way!

Red/Fawn U8 – 1

1st [log in to see names] Fawn D Fawn – decent enough type, level on top. spoilt by a little moult on back and shoulder.

Blue Ad – 3

1st [log in to see names] B Big and typey similar in build to 2nd, had a brown cast. wins class on condition not colour.
2nd [log in to see names] B Big and typey with best ‘medium slate’ colour. spoilt by a little patch of dry flakey skin on back otherwise the better mouse.
3rd [log in to see names] D short in the body, white toe nails on back foot and laddery under.

Blue U8 – 2

AOC Self Ad – 2

1st [log in to see names] Champagne D An excellent typey mouse with a good head, nice ear set and a beautiful fleshy tail. As good for type as any excellent PEW. A little dark in colour but a good effort. Behind on colour in challenge.
2nd [log in to see names] Champagne D Best colour out of the two by far, but had a wonky nose.

AOC Self U8 – 3

1st [log in to see names] Chocolate D A lovely deep dark chocolate colour. a very pleasing mouse, in excellent condition. beautiful sheen to coat. let down by a tan vent.
2nd [log in to see names] Silver B Silver – decent colour. a bit short in the body with short muzzle. cropped whiskers, although present.

AOVs

Agouti/Cinn Ad – 7

1st [log in to see names] Agouti B Good deep fiery red and lovely golden belly. exceptionally even ticking over top and good under. had previously visited a barber but had grown back its whiskers in time for the show, if somewhat unevenly, which detracted from the over all appeal. but still a very nice mouse.
2nd [log in to see names] Agouti D Nice even ticking but behind on colour to first.
3rd [log in to see names] Agouti D a moulty rump and quite a few white toe nails.

Agouti/Cinn U8 – 3

1st [log in to see names] Agouti D lovely little mouse in super condition! nice bold healthy eyes. level ticking all over. depth of colour to come, will likely make a good adult. there is a tiny fleck of red on center line without ticking, keep an eye on.
2nd [log in to see names] Cinnamon D Another very pleasant mouse, in top condition! slightly un-even ticking concentrating over spine, but fit with super glossy coat.
3rd [log in to see names] Agouti D wonky nose.

Chin/Fox Ad – 2

1st [log in to see names] Black Fox B Black Fox – top colour ok, although could be blacker. a pretty decent under. its demarcation line is a little blurry in places and it needs more ticking over flanks.
2nd [log in to see names] Black Fox B Black fox – better ticking than 1st but much behind on top colour, and under.

Chin/Fox U8 – 2

1st [log in to see names] Black Fox B A nice mouse. good depth of black and nice ticking. again watch the demarcation line, not crisp. Very good effort.
2nd [log in to see names] Black Fox D Black fox – top coat more sepia than black. a short stubby muzzle.

SP/BP Siamese Ad – 3

1st [log in to see names] SP Siamese D best of the three but moulty shoulders. base colour too cold a shade. it had the best points although they need to be darker.
2nd [log in to see names] SP Siamese D moult mark over hind quarters. Again colour too cold a shade.
3rd [log in to see names] SP Siamese B similar in colour to 1st and 2nd, however lacks any real shading over hind quarters and had light points. A bit non descript.

SP/BP Siamese U8 – 2

1st [log in to see names] BP Siamese B No shading over hind quarters and very light feet. a bit wishy washy. maybe it will colour up with age?

Argente Ad – 4

The class winner was genuinely a fantastic mouse and gave me much deliberation in the challenge, unfortunately it had a tiny patch of moult on neck showing blue under coat, but once I had seen it, its all my eye was drawn to.
1st [log in to see names] B Big Strong typey mouse of great substance. I won’t lie and pretend I know what shot silk looks like but looking at this mouse it gave me a good idea. excellent even silvering throughout coat! under coat a pleasing dark blue, and best under in class. spoilt but mark on neck.
2nd [log in to see names] D Of decent type but just not as good winner. Even colour but unfortunately lacked any silvering at all.
3rd [log in to see names] D un-even colour with blue under coat showing through top coat.

Argente U8 – 1

AOV Ad – 6

1st [log in to see names] Sable B Sable – very nice graduation between colours, with lovely rich dark brown top and nice rich colour under. there was the appearance of ticking along flanks which spoil a little, and too much red had crept in between nose and eyes. fab tail.
2nd [log in to see names] Himalayan D Him – Nice colour, could have darker feet. small eyes held back.
3rd [log in to see names] Pearl B Pearl – Black tipping a bit un-even over back.

AOV U8 – 4

There was another wonky faced mouse in this class, obviously it didn’t place, however the exhibitor should inspect carefully, as you don’t want to pass this trait down.
1st [log in to see names] Himalayan D Him – Nice colour. In lovely condition! white toes on both back feet.
2nd [log in to see names] Sable D Sable – beats 3rd on top, ticking was much less prominent and reserved to the flanks only. Excellent Condition!
3rd [log in to see names] Sable B Sable – similar to 2nd in colour but with a richer under, nice graduation. very ticked over rump, so much so if you held hand over the front half of the mouse, it could have been a poor agouti. excellent condition!
