What drew you to join the National Mouse Club, and what are you most excited to learn or experience?
I’ve kept pet mice on and off over the years, and they’ve always been one of my favourite small animals to care for. I’m now looking to get back into keeping them more seriously, with a particular interest in breeding.
Joining the National Mouse Club felt like the perfect step, as having access to such a knowledgeable and experienced community is incredibly important to me. I’m especially interested in learning more about responsible breeding, genetics, and how to improve the health and quality of future litters.
I’m really looking forward to connecting with other members, learning from their experience, and becoming more involved in the hobby over time.

Do you have any mice yet, or are you just starting out? Tell us about your mice or your plans to get some!
I don’t currently have any mice, as I’m in the process of getting back into keeping them. Over the years I’ve kept mice on and off, so I’m looking forward to starting again with a more focused approach.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Herefords, and they will definitely be one of my main focuses moving forward. My aim is to start with a small group, establish a small mousery, and gradually work towards breeding more.

How did you first discover the world of fancy mice? Was there a specific moment or person that sparked your interest?
I’ve always had an interest in mice, although I can’t point to one specific moment or person that sparked it. I think I was just drawn to how interesting and characterful they can be.
I didn’t grow up in a particularly animal-oriented environment, but having pets was never discouraged, which gave me the space to explore that interest in my own way. Over time, I’ve largely taught myself different aspects of animal care and husbandry, which has only deepened my appreciation for them.

What’s one fun fact about yourself that has nothing to do with mice?
I keep and breed birds alongside my interest in mice – I have budgies, canaries, and finches, as well as a small aviary and bird room at home. I also have experience with a smallholding, keeping sheep, pigs, and poultry, although I’m now scaling that back to focus more on hobbies closer to home.

Have you ever attended a mouse show before, or is this all new to you?
I haven’t attended a mouse show before, so this is all new to me. I’m really looking forward to experiencing one for the first time and learning more about that side of the hobby.

If you could ask a seasoned mouse fancier one question, what would it be?
What’s the most important thing to focus on when starting out with breeding to ensure healthy, happy mice?

Halifax Cancelled
I regret to inform members about the cancellation of the mouse section at the Halifax Agricultural Show this year but unfortunately, nobody was able to take over from me as show secretary. On the up side, we might have a new venue at Bridgwater, again a show we would share with other livestock. Hopefully, we will find a show secretary for it by next year!
Official Facebook Page Restored
Another positive note on the state of our public Facebook page, which we have now reclaimed, albeit under a new identity. All thanks to Simon Grimwood’s quick thinking and doing a lot of work behind the scenes. Not a lot going on there yet as the timeline had to start at square one, but please, if you haven’t already, do give us a follow. Every little helps spread the word about our great club! There are three admins for the page – Simon Grimwood, Mike Davis and me. This should help us avoid losing control of the page in case the sole admin goes AWOL. You can’t be too careful :-).
Did you know the page is not visible on a Facebook search? It needs a bit more tweaking I think.
The algorithm needs to do it’s thing and Facebook needs to learn about the new page. Give it time and it will appear.
I do agree about the admin needing to be more than one person, that’s a good move. Will you do the same for the FB Members group?
Good point, thanks for the suggestion Ruth. Same three individuals.
Good idea!
