General Comments

Thank you for the invitation to judge alongside Stephan. It was a really enjoyable day, and fantastic to meet a few new faces. Great job stewarding Chris! Cheers to Gail for running the kitchen and keeping me topped up with coffee. There were some very nice mice entered including a few excellent roan that caught my eye, great to see them on the show bench. Congratulations to Dave who won BIS with another excellent U8 Champagne Tan, and Ty who took BOA in show with his Agouti. I look forward to the next one.

Tans

Black Tan Ad – 4

1st [log in to see names] B Best type of all 4 exhibits. Most level tan of top 3.
2nd [log in to see names] B Similar to 1st top and tan, however there was line under which spoilt.
3rd [log in to see names] B Poor tan, lacked depth of colour. Undercoat on belly was also showing through, making the tan appear even worse.

Black Tan U8 – 2

1st [log in to see names] D Tan to come in. Unfortunately a lot of guard hairs. The top coat had good lustre, and the overall condition of the mouse was great.
2nd [log in to see names] D Poor tan, lacks colour.

PE Tan Ad – 3

1st [log in to see names] Champagne Tan B Best on tan. A little bit dark on top and ears could have been bigger.
2nd [log in to see names] Champagne Tan D Best top colour, matching closest to my interpretation of champagne silk. Unfortunately this mouse was thin under placing it second.
3rd [log in to see names] Champagne Tan B Just behind on tan to 1st place. Rough coat.

PE Tan U8 – 6

1st [log in to see names] Champagne Tan B Best tan in class by far, excellent for variety. Rich and deep! Top colour a lovely shade, close to standard, and not sacrificed over the tan. Excellent condition, fit and healthy with a gleaming coat, beautiful eye and a joy to have in hand. BIS. Well done!
2nd [log in to see names] Champagne Tan D Beats 3rd place on condition. Tan to develop with age.
3rd [log in to see names] Dove Tan D Lovely to see a dove tan on the bench. A very pretty little mouse. Let down by a light nose, colour fading out from the whisker bed, to almost white at the end. A small chip in right ear.

AOC Tan Ad – 4

1st [log in to see names] Agouti Tan B Rich fiery depth of colour on top with even ticking throughout. Decent tan. Excellent condition, coat glossy. There was a small moult mark on back which held back in challenge. Otherwise a strong contender.
2nd [log in to see names] Blue Tan B Too dark on top, closer to black than blue. Looked an older mouse so probably darkened with age. Good tan for variety.
3rd [log in to see names] Blue Tan B Dark top. Tan patchy.

AOC Tan U8 – 3

1st [log in to see names] Agouti Tan B Decent mouse all round but ticking was concentrated towards head.
2nd [log in to see names] Blue Tan B Tan a bit light and unlevel. Coat a little rough.
3rd [log in to see names] Blue Tan D Knot in tail.

AOVs

Gold Agouti / Cinn Ad – 2

1st [log in to see names] Agouti D A nice mouse overall. Good size and decent type. Lovely feet and dark nails. Colour was decent and rich, but maybe could have been more fiery. Ticking was slightly concentrating along back which was a shame. Stood out however on condition! Fit, vibrant, healthy mouse, as you’d expect a good show mouse to be. Best Opp Age in Show.
2nd [log in to see names] Cinnamon D Very nice colour, a rich golden tan carrying through nicely into belly. Lacking clearly defined ticking which was unfortunate. Moult on left shoulder. Teats showing.

Gold Agouti / Cinn U8 – 1

1st [log in to see names] Cinnamon D A nice little mouse with great type and lovely ear set.

SP/BP Siamese Ad – 10

1st [log in to see names] SP Siamese B Lovely type. Excellent points. Nice even shading. Colour had a nice warmth to it, closest to beige, very reminiscent of its cat counterpart.
2nd [log in to see names] SP Siamese D Colour not quite as good as first. The moult on neck was its defining fault.
3rd [log in to see names] SP Siamese D Least moulty of the class. Shading and points were good, behind on colour.

SP/BP Siamese U8 – 2

1st [log in to see names] BP Siamese D Nice fit little mouse. Lacked shading over rump. Will likely come with age.
2nd [log in to see names] BP Siamese D Very similar to 1st. Moult mark on back.

Roan Ad – 5

1st [log in to see names] B Black. Excellent even ticking throughout, great on head and belly. A superb example of the variety. Just gone past its prime, which held back in challenge but otherwise a stunner. I look forward to seeing these again.
2nd [log in to see names] D Choc. A very close second, another great example of its variety.
3rd [log in to see names] D Black. Lacks ticking on top, concentrated under.

Roan U8 – 4

1st [log in to see names] D A great little mouse. Little light under, but I’m sure that will develop with age.

AOV Ad – 3

1st [log in to see names] Himalayan D Good points, nice clean colour.
2nd [log in to see names] Splashed B No splashing under.

General Comments

Thanks for the invite to judge. Had a great day, co-judging with Simon. Great stewarding by Justine – thanks for keeping me busy. Mice were a mixed bunch, particularly the satins. Satin classes have been declining of late, with too few mice to pick from. Best in Show a lovely U8 cham tan from Chew Valley, who keeps churning out winners. Congrats Dave!
