GENERAL COMMENTS

The Bradford Championship Show is one of the first shows I showed at after I rejoined in 2016 and it was an honour to be asked to judge, alongside Kelly and Bob. We didn’t take long to agree on Sarah Cudbill’s outstanding Blue Dutch doe for BIS. An almost perfect mouse with an arrow-straight saddle right up to its neck. Or so it seemed. Well done Sarah! A respectable Sable from Phil Hall was another outstanding mouse to behold. Great to see Sables mak- ing a return to the show bench. I had some very nice Selfs in my class, both light and dark. Blacks are getting seriously good. Some outstanding PEWs and Creams as well. Generally, square(ish) tails, lacking a mm or so in girth were the main criticism. Thanks Robert Walker for stewarding and keeping me busy!

Selfs

PE WHITE Ad – 2

1st A Leach D Lovely racy mouse with
a ot of substance, in perfect shape and
of the purest white. Ears outstanding,
free of creases and carried at just the
right angle. Young adult with under to
develop and a slight line. Tails could
be thicker and rounder but what really
stopped this mouse were bites all over
the tail
2nd A Leach D Moult mark across
back spoils an otherwise excellent
mouse. A tad fat, better under than 1st

PE WHITE u/8 – 5

1st L Walker D Young mouse with
excellent under, despite age. Crease-
free ears carried too upright!
2nd C Barber B Nice young buck but
ears too creased for variety.
3rd A Leach D Uneven under spoils a
good mouse

CREAM Ad – 6

1st A Leach D Best in class by far.
Best in condition, lovely shade of
cream (and clearly not a White!) Good
tail set, perfectly set ears and big, bold
eyes made this a sight to behold. The
only criticism was a thin patch of fur
near the vent
2nd A Leach D Not far behind the 1st
but not the eyes and a hint of a line
under
3rd A Leach D Ears carried too up-
right, better under than first two

CREAM u/8 – 5

1st A Leach D Great condition and
colour, bold, lively eyes, good tail set
and ears, under to come
2nd A Leach D Great condition and
colour, tail could be thicker, line under
spoils
3rd A Leach D Great condition and
colour, square tail set, tail could be
thicker

BLACK Ad – 7

1st L Birchall B Who says you can’t
show bucks in the black class. Fine
example of an all-black mouse with
not so much as a single offending
hair. Wins on overall blackness, in-
cluding outstanding feet. Black carried
well into the ear sets
2nd L Birchall D Slightly lighter
hocks, a very minor difference to 1st
but noticeable
3rd L Birchall D Less depth of colour
in ears

BLACK u/8 – 9

1st L Birchall D Best depth of black,
well into ears and feet, darkest under
in this class. Watch the ears. I have
seen black ears with fewer creases
2nd L Birchall D Not same velvety
under of 1st, feet ever so slightly light-
er 3rd L Birchall D Not far behind 2nd
but the mouse felt too light and malle-
able when handled, Needs more sub-
stance

CHAM/FAWN Ad – 7

1st D Bennett Fawn D Fit mouse,
best top colour and matching under,
good tail and general type
2nd A Leach Fawn D Slightly darker
top and lighter under, not type of 1st
3rd J Mullan Fawn B Nice level top
but laddery under spoils

CHAM/FAWN u/8 – 3

1st J Mullan Fawn D Dark but fiery
top with matching under, fair type
2nd L Russell Ch D Very light and
even lighter nose and tail set, beauti-
ful type but short wheelbase
3rd J Mullan Fawn D Not in condition,
overdeveloped, light under

BLUE Ad – 4

1st S Smith D Good top colour and
matching under, only a few light hairs
near vent
2nd S Smith D Light under spoils an
otherwise good mouse. Better type
than 1st. Nice to see improving type
in Blues
3rd S Smith D Good type but too
many light hairs spoil

BLUE u/8 – 3

1st S Smith D Most even blue in
class, least amount of white hairs
near vent. Good thick under with col-
our matching top
2nd S Smith B Overdeveloped. Dark
spine and light hairs round vent spoil
3rd S Smith D Too light

AOC SELF Ad – 6

1st A Leach Red D Best colour all
round, good condition
2nd J Mullan Red D Slightly sooty top
spoils
3rd S Smith Choc B Depth of colour
needs work. Skin of tail and feet too
light, yellow hairs round vent. Not a
bad mouse at all, considering this is a
lost variety

AOC SELF u/8 – 1

1st Red B Sooty

SELF CHALLENGE Ad – 33

1st A Leach Cream
2nd L Birchall Black
3rd D Bennett Fawn

SELF CHALLENGE u/8 – 28

1st A Leach Cream
2nd A Leach Cream
3rd L Walker PEW

GENERAL COMMENTS

Thank you Mick for inviting me to judge. I had a lovely day with some very good mice to judge and some very difficult choices to make. Some mice didn’t get placed although I would love to have taken them home. Thank you to Lewis for stewarding for me, you did a good job as always. Thank you to Mark for my cup of much-needed tea. And last but not least, thanks to my co-judges who made the final decisions easy at the end.
