The Queen

The last time I wrote these notes, we had a Queen. This time we have a King. I feel saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II and have been moved by all the ceremony and the support of the people; now, life moves on, and I wish King Charles III much success for the future.

Sad to say, [log in to see names] has died (in August). Older members will remember [log in to see names] at the secretary’s table for Yorkshire Mouse Club Shows, always a friendly face.

A New Show

Sheffield Mouse Club is a new addition to our show calendar, first show on 23 October, which is a Sunday. [log in to see names] is running the show, and I hope to see all of you there!!

The Team Cup

In his excellent new monthly contribution, [log in to see names] highlights the Team Cup this month. He mentions the fact that it was evidently competed for several times a year. When I joined the NMC in 1982, most of the cups were presented at every Cup Show, i.e., 5 times a year. For fanciers who won a trophy at the Spring or Summer Cup Shows, which are not on fixed dates, this could mean they only had a trophy in their possession for a few weeks before having to give it back again. The Cup Secretary at that time was Frank Hawley, and he re-organised all the cups (with Executive approval of course) so that each of them would only be available at one Cup Show, and members could hang on to them for 12 months. A lot of reshuffling was involved. I think there is an article about it somewhere in an old magazine—I’ll see if I can fish it out.

NMC Mugs

Among the items handed over by our previous Cup Secretary were the remaining NMC mugs. These are now with [log in to see names]—you can either buy one, if you would like one, or hope to win one if they are presented as a trophy at a show!

NMC Annual Ballot

Enclosed with this issue is your ballot paper (with a change from the list previously printed), together with an addressed envelope for its return to the scrutineer. All it needs is a stamp. Please use your vote.

Health Update

On a final note, [log in to see names] has been in hospital for a number of weeks now—I hope you’re out soon, and fighting fit again, [log in to see names]!
